All training is offered as individual sessions, or as a 6-session package at a discounted rate. Sessions are typically about an hour long. The sessions are meant to include both the dog and the owner, and the emphasis is to teach the owner how to work with his/her dog. Homework is given between sessions. The 6-session package is designed to cover basic obedience commands and boundary control, and individual sessions are primarily for more advanced work, tune-ups, or problem solving.

For those clients who have limited time, a program known as Training By the Trainer is also available. The dog is trained directly by the trainer until fully trained, which typically ranges from two to four sessions. At the conclusion of training, "transfer sessions" are then scheduled with the owner to show the owner how to apply the commands with the dog. However, Aralake Dog Training cannot guarantee that the owner will be able to establish an effective relationship with his/her dog with such minimal involvement in the training process. The 6-session program that includes both dog and owner is therefore strongly recommended, as successful training is highly dependent on the relationship that is cultivated between dog and handler through regular reinforcement of training. The Training by the Trainer program is considered a last resort alternative if time constraints are a challenge.

Dog Walking by the Trainer is an ongoing service available during and/or after formal training is complete. It combines ongoing training reinforcement during walks (refreshers), and is charged at a higher rate than basic walks.

Dog walking, daily home visits for pet/housesitting, and overnight stays for the Long Beach area are also available and are charged on a daily basis. These visits include all the services described under Pet and Housesitting Services. No dog? No problem...we also sit for other pets, or even no pets, if you just want your home to have that "lived in" look while you are gone!
