Below are demonstrations of each of the commands taught by Aralake Dog Training. Each command is given with a hand signal and verbal command. However, hand signals and body language are more strongly emphasized, as these are the dog's more natural communication system. Hand signals are especially important as a dog ages, as hearing loss may occur, thus making verbal commands alone useless. At the time of this filming, Rascal the Demo Dog was 13 1/2 years old, and almost completely deaf! Therefore the hand signals and body language were crucial to effectively communicate with her. Had they not been taught at a young age, her quality of life would be greatly compromised in her senior years, and she certainly would not be able to perform any commands.
